FENG SHUI EXPERT OFFERS FREE CONSULTS FOR NON-PROFITS

Bynum, NC – July 12, 2006 – As of August 1, professional feng shui practitioner Tasseli McKay will begin offering free consultations to non-profit organizations focused on social and environmental justice. When asked what sparked this move, McKay cites an ongoing non-profit funding crisis and her personal passion for making feng shui accessible to everyone. "Social justice groups are really being squeezed right now, and feng shui can help. We’re talking about one of the world’s most powerful tools for reaching goals and mobilizing financial resources. Non-profits really can’t afford to stay in the dark about it."

McKay, who first became interested in feng shui as an undergraduate at Yale, finds tremendous satisfaction in bringing the age-old discipline to a new audience. Describing the origins of feng shui in ancient China, she asserts that it has long been used to maintain wealth and standing among the elite. That tradition, she says, has largely continued to the present, with Western corporate giants from Chase Manhattan Bank to Hyatt Hotels increasingly turning to feng shui to help boost their success. And as more people in the West are looking to "feng shui" their homes as well as their offices, feng shui consultants typically find themselves with a private client base drawn from the upper classes.

In response, McKay has made it her mission to deliver affordable, relevant feng shui advice to clients outside of Wall Street or Hollywood—particularly middle-class families and people with independent businesses. Will the approach that works with her current clientele be equally effective for pro bono clients in the non-profit sector? McKay sounds confident.

"The kind of group I’m looking to help has a particular humanitarian mission; no one is in non-profit work for the money. This is absolutely key in feng shui. Cookie-cutter feng shui cures often fail because they’re used for ‘wealth’ or ‘harmony’ or some other vague idea. The real power comes in when you can harness feng shui solutions to well-defined objectives, all in service of the greater good. That’s when the magic happens."
